October 2012. The American Gem Trade Association has announced the winners of its 2013 AGTA Spectrum and Cutting Edge Awards. This year marked the 29th anniversary of the Spectrum Awards, which recognize jewellery designers working in natural coloured gemstones and cultured pearls in fine jewellery designs. The Cutting Edge Awards honour lapidary artists who facet, carve, and create objects of art with coloured stones and pearls.
The Tanzanite Foundation congratulate Naomi Sarna , who won First Place in the Cutting Edge Awards with her magnificent tanzanite carving, “l’ Heure Bleu”.
Naomi traveled to Tanzania to the TanzaniteOne mining operation in March this year to select the rough material suitable for the piece. She was inspired by the colours of Tanzania, particularly the sunsets. L’ Heure Bleu is named for ‘ the blue hour’ – the period of twilight each morning and evening where there is neither full daylight nor complete darkness.
